Sakari Mäkelä (BSc), born in 1987, is a Finnfoto-awarded photographer, cinematographer and an independent film maker from Finland. He has had a passion for telling stories with images since his childhood.
Today, his works consists of various areas of photography, including commercial work, nature photography, studio portraiture and art imagery.
He has studied Didactical Physics in University of Helsinki and graduated as a Bachelor of Science (BSc). He has also studied Cinematography in Metropolia University of Applied Science, department of Film and Television.
He is currently working as CEO at White Cloud Productions, a media production house located in Southern Finland and as an art teacher in Järvenpää Upper Secondary School.
He has worked as Vice President & Youth Representative in the Association of Finnish Camera Clubs (a member of International Federation of Photographic Art FIAP and Photographic Society of America PSA). He has also been a member of the board in Digivideoyhdistys Ry, an Finnish organization targeted for digital video users.
Sakari has achieved several international nominations and awards with his photographs and short films Käpy and Niin myötä- kuin vastamäessä, including Honorable Mention Award from Los Angeles International New Wave Film Festival and the award of Best Directing in Macedonia International Film Festival OSFAF.
He won the prestigious Finnfoto-award in 2017 for influencing the development of Finnish photography culture and creating the prerequisites for improving the appreciation of photographic art.
His photography has been featured in online galleries and published in several newspapers, including Helsingin Sanomat and Keski-Uusimaa.
All of his working areas are bound together by his will to show people the beautifulness of the fleeting moments that one never forgets.
